Growing up I had always dreamed of being a "doctor". As a child I only knew that I wanted to help people. I loved children and always wanted to work in medicine caring for them. I started in prehospital medicine as an EMT, worked as a CNA in long-term care, and eventually went to nursing school, receiving my ADN and RN in 2000. I worked in the hospital in Women's and Children's services, caring for families through the birth process. I specialized in high risk obstetric care and perinatal loss, helping families throughout the most amazing process of birth and sometimes through the most difficult losses one can imagine.
I decided to further my education and in 2016 obtained my BSN. After that I wanted to continue to further my intensive care skills and moved from Obstetric Nursing to Neonatal Intensive Care nursing, caring for the most fragile and tiny humans. I have worked alongside some of the most talented and educated physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, and other interdisciplinary team members to help improve the lives of these tiny infants.
I have always longed to bring the latest information to improve practice and grow knowledge among my colleagues and patients.
In my time away from work, I enjoy raising my family, spending time outdoors in the beautiful world, reading, sewing, and writing.
I have been in the medical world since I started as a volunteer at the age of 14. Since that time my role has changed and grown. I started out as an EMT/Firefighter. I then went on to receive my paramedic education certification in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and was one of only 12 people accepted per semester to participate in that program. In that program I had the opportunity to be on TLC’s program “Paramedics”, as I administered IV medications and assessments for the Pittsburgh Marathon. At graduation, I received the school’s first ever ”Extra Effort Award” for going above and beyond the call of duty. I graduated number 3 in my class.
I moved back to Oregon after getting certified as a nationally registered Paramedic, however, I was unable to continue working as a paramedic due to education requirements in the state of Oregon.
I opted to pursue nursing, starting by getting my Certified Nursing Assistant and then went on to get my LPN and RN licenses and ADN degree. While pursuing my degree, I was on the student council and was Vice President of our Phi Theta Kappa organization. I graduated with honors. I have now worked in Nursing for 16 years. I have specialized in long term care, rehab, dementia and Alzheimer care, and most recently as an Anticoagulant RN.
I have always had a passion for writing. My other hobbies include autograph collecting and sewing. I enjoy spending time with my family and find my peace sitting at the beach.
